Like I mentioned before, the first thing to do with an old aquarium is to leak test it. This involves filling it up about a quarter tank per day and checking for leaks after each step. Doing it in stages makes it easier to spot any slow leaks as well as the kind that flood all over your floor. I'm pretty sure this tank doesn't leak, so I'm being brave and testing it on the kitchen counter.

I picked up a few supplies that I didn't have yesterday: a gravel vacuum, activated carbon for the filter, some water testing kits, etc. You can also see the pile of existing gear I had: the old filter, tubes, air pump, undergravel filter...

I also picked up a few bags of gravel to put on top of the undergravel filter, and I had some old decorations laying around.

Also, thank yous to the local Delta Pets store, who had a very knowledgeable fellow in the fish department, plus all the supplies you could remotely imagine needing. Their fish look good and healthy, so I'll probably go back there when it's time to stock some fish and plants.

Totally unrelated, I put the half-shrivelled orchid plants from Mom's bay window back out in the greenhouse; will feed and water them and see if I can baby them back to health.
