Spring Chickens at the Park
Aug. 25th, 2009 09:41 pmWell, I was going to post zoo pictures from this last weekend tonight, but when I got to processing photos from my camera's directory, I found some photos from back in April that I completely forgot to post. So Lafreniere Park instead of Audubon Zoo, this time.
Back before it got infernally hot around here, we would go walking in the local park. The local park has a rather large bird population, courtesy of their artificial "Lousiana Swamp" nature trail and the park population of ducks. Something that came in with the artificial swamp seems to have been heirloom chicken breeds, allowed to run feral in the park.
Buff Orpington hen

There's a large Buff Orpington rooster around, too, but I didn't get a picture of him.
Buffy hen, again

Spring chicks with hen

The evil photographer is after us! Quick! Into the bushes and hide!

Golden Leghorn rootster and white Leghorn hen

Golden Leghorn rooster

The leghorn roosters are very noisy; they crow a lot.
Brown Leghorn hen

Hey, we have some white Leghorn roosters, too!

This is not a chicken.

Did I mention the park has a LOT of ducks? We have wild mallards, domestic ducks of several breeds including Muscovy ducks, and all kinds of hybrids between them.
We have coots, too!
