NaNoWriMo anxiety
Nov. 8th, 2004 09:37 amI was too busy playing this weekend to work on my NaNoWriMo 2004 novel. Bad me! I guess I have to make up for it this week.
So far, I've introduced some protagonists: Mael and his girlfriend Malureaa, and Prince Getraud. I've also shown the antagonists: Wulfhere the Deathless, who has a blood-feud with Mael; and Kerutep ap Gaur, Duke of Earturdor, who is an insane sadist who is deeply involved with a demon cult. His main flunky, Kesor-Nef, is the demon cult baddie who is 'advising' the mad Duke. Kesor-Nef has also been shown to be taking orders from some mysterious Southerner.
Our heroes, Wulfhere, and some minor characters are just finishing up the Spring Festival celebrations in Alatanue, largest city of Earturdor, the Duke's domain. The Duke is over in his capital, Orome, and is busy perverting the sacred rituals, which bodes ill for the health of the Duchy this year. (Um, that's a yes. Demon-Wind Plague on the way after torrential spring rains and a cool summer. We have to kill off Getraud's mother the queen-consort so the Ambassdor of Lo-Yang can give King Camenar his 'gift'.)
Time to break our heroes loose from their partying in Alatanue. Sure, the rituals have camouflaged them from Wulfhere--but Pensalt Hardhand isn't happy about any barbarians after Wulfhere tore up his place and killed his men. And he has his orders to pin troubles on barbarians if he can...
