Wow, this is one of those fics that cut you to the bone. Granted, Skyfire as a killer takes suspension of disbelief, but you did a good job towards making it work. Your choice to set it after "Countdown to Extinction" certainly helped with that - it would take something like trying to blow up the Earth and all its inhabitants to make Skyfire do such a thing (I think). Which, of course, is why the events of "Countdown to Extinction" will be one of the things I'll have to think hardest about when I'll get down to writing my Skyfire AU fic. (But I shouldn't babble about my fic projects while I'm replying to your fic, eh?)

Starscream has quite a lot of self-insight (for Starscream, I mean) in this fic, but eh - I guess after a shake-up like this...

Just to complicate things, there's two layers of self-insight--Starscream is recalling all this 20 years later, after he's died and returned. He's remembering what he thought then, but the interpretation is colored by the somewhat wiser personality that came back from the dead.

Fics about Starscream's and Skyfire's broken friendship are a plotbunny among (certain circles) of TF fandom. I'm not surprised since the series never did a good developed story about those two people. Perhaps you made a new point here making than Screamer realizes about their broken friendship... But I hardly can picture 'Fire being vengeful.
Anyway, is this story related with any other of yours?

Yes, it is loosely related to Friends No Longer With Me (http://dragoness-e.livejournal.com/9482.html), which drops Starscream rather unexpectedly onto Skyfire's head, so to speak, and a much longer fic not yet written.

I see I will have to write the ficlet that shows Skyfire's side of this particular event; too many people are commenting on Skyfire being "vengeful". He's not being vengeful, he's stopping a mad dog killer from ever again having a chance to slaughter the entire population of Earth, or so he thinks. He's got guilt issues about having looked the other way at first, because Starscream used to be his friend--perhaps he's overcompensating a tad?

Ok! I don't remember right now if I read that one or not ^_^U You've write many TF fics lately. I'll keep an eye on that one.

As for Skyfire, I get your point. Perhaps it's because 'Fire fans (at least, the ones of the cartoon; comics 'Fire is quite different character)use to see him as some short a pacific and gentle gigant. I'm ok with this, but certainly Skyfire also has character.... perhaps you just pointed that out.
