Bird-duh! (Not a lawn flamingo)

The other day two weekends ago I was returning to my home when I noticed a rather large white bird standing in the front yard eyeing the blackberry thicket around the oak tree. Its neck was coiled, poised to strike like a snake--
--and it did! Head and beak stabbed out, grabbing something off the vines (probably a lizard), which the egret gobbled down.
Not wanting to scare the bird by getting out of my car, I phoned the family in the house to tell them about the visitor in the front yard. Mi Esposo grabbed my camera and took pictures of the bird through the front door; I believe The Daughter did as well.
Look, down on the lawn! It's a bird!

You can see by this shot through the front door just how close the bird is. That's me in the car out by the street, and you can see the blackberry thicket I mentioned.
I believe this bird to be what I call an American Egret (Ardea alba), but the internet informs me that it is more properly called the Great Egret, as it is not restricted to the Americas. (Also Great White Egret, Common Egret, and in New Zealand, Kotuku).
That car is watching me...

The egret got nervous at the sight ofthe weirdo in the car me, and hopped up on the blackberry vines.
I'll try this perch over here....

I am much better looking than you are

The bird finally decided it had had enough of our camera shenanigans and flew off...
Bye!
