No, the guy upstairs isn't that noisy
Oct. 30th, 2007 08:27 pmAbout 20 minutes ago, we had a 5.6 magnitude earthquake, not quite under my feet. Epicenter is about 15 miles east of here, up in those brown hills I took pictures of. Serious rock and roll.
At first, I just thought the guy upstairs was stomping around noisily, but then I realized that my chair shouldn't be vibrating that much. It turned into the kind of rock and roll/boat pitching in a heavy sea that I remembered from Diego Garcia's 7.6 magnitude earthquake. Fortunately, it wasn't quite that big, but it was a hefty shock.
Amazingly enough, nothing fell down here, and the power stayed on. Cell phone is useless, though--can't get calls through to let family know I'm fine. Probably because everyone else is doing that at once.

I'm fine, don't worry.
Follow-up: The news has been saying that this is the biggest quake we've had in the Bay area since the 1989 Loma Prieta quake. That's the one that knocked down the Bay bridge, if you remember. Fortunately, this one wasn't nearly as strong.
Also, apparently there has been minor local damage around town: walls and foundations cracked here and there, a water main broken, that sort of thing.

Date: 2007-11-02 10:30 am (UTC)Some weeks ago, I also suffered an earthquake like that, I was asleep at that time, but I even didn't realize a earthquake was happening.^_^U
Sometimes we need something stronger to be afraid off. I have to praise you because you're overcoming every Earth's disaster around.
