San Francisco and the Golden Gate, part 3

From Vista Point, I walked partway back across the Golden Gate bridge on the pedestrian walkway.
Golden Gate Bridge, looking down the pedestrian walkway from the north

As you can see, there's a wide walkway on either side of the bridge. On a nice day like this, it is busy with tourists, joggers, bicyclists and the occasional protest group.
Looking up at the north pylon

The Golden Gate bridge is a really tall bridge. Not only is it high enough above the bay for capital ships to pass underneath, the pylons from which the suspension cables hang rise at least as high again.
Looking along the bridge from the north pylon viewing area

The walkway goes around the outer edge of the north pylon, and thus swings well out from the bridge proper, giving a nice view along the length of the bridge. It should also give you an idea of how high it rises above the bay.
The view from the bridge is even more spectacular than the view from Vista Point. You can see all kinds of interesting things if you keep your eyes open.
From rocks...

to water-sports...

to motorboats...

to sailboats...

to passenger steamers...

Or possibly this is a sea-going ferry.
to airplanes...

to wildlife
Sea lion

This fellow, and the porpoises, ducked in and out of the waves. You had to pay close attention to see them--they were just specs of brown or gray in the water. I doubt most people saw them. These pictures have been blown up considerably from the originals.
Porpoise

There were three of these guys playing in the waves close together, but they were very hard to spot, and harder to photograph.
I'm not sure what this is

Or this...
