dragoness_e: "Just a GHOST of myself" Starscream (Ghostie-Scream)

Last night, conversation in chat touched on Transformer zombies and the wonderful "City of Fear" arc in the old Marvel Transformer comics.

Now, Marvel Transformers comics were not known for their stunning art and the U.S. comics weren't notable for their plots or characterization. On the other hand, across the pond there was a writer named Simon Furman working on the U.K. fill-in editions, and he came up with some really interesting stories. One of those was the "City of Fear/Legion of the Lost/Meltdown" arc.

Just in case you've never read it, I won't summarize the plot--that would be boring anyway. It's better read.

Reasons this arc is good and fun:

* Transformer ZOMBIES!
* Flame, a mad scientist Autobot with a gaudier paint-job than Hot Rod, and less attachment to reality than Starscream at his most megalomanic. (The Autobot Council of Elders is long gone and no one cares a flip about your ejection from the Council anymore--because there's a HUGE FREAKING CIVIL WAR THAT'S BEEN GOING ON FOR THE LAST JILLION YEARS! Dude, do you not look out the window now and then? Oh, and putting the reactor shutdown controls inside the reactor? Even the Autobots figured out that was cracked.)
* Zombie Impactor.
* Zombie Impactor telling Emirate Xaaron he's wrong.
* Ultra Magnus and the Sparklerbots prove that not all Transformers have the collective IQ of a turnip. (Hey, we've figured out most of the bad guy's plot, once we had 5 minutes to sit down and not fight zombies!)
* Flywheels
* Flywheels fills in as the 5 year-old who can spot the plot hole. ("Hey dummies, if the zombies are controlled by a computer signal, why not jam the signal?")
* Trypticon ("I couldn't bring a lot of reinforcements...")
* Autobots and Decepticons working together against a common enemy and NOT betraying each other.
* Springer getting over his inadequacy. (So after you talk Impactor back to self-awareness, you just run off saying "The others can fill you in, gotta go!" leaving a confused self-aware zombie going 'Huh?')

This is possibly my favorite Marvel arc besides G2. I hope y'all enjoy it just as much, if you find it. It's out there on the web, I think....
