Painted Desert Pictures, part 1
Jul. 14th, 2007 05:15 pmIn my travel journal entries, I showed you a selection of pictures just to give y'all a feel of the country I was traveling through. Now I've had time to edit and upload all my Painted Desert pictures that were worth looking at--so, bypass this post if pictures of colorful Arizona hills, cliffs and rocks just aren't your thing.
I'm breaking this up into multiple posts as I feel like writing it up, mostly to spare the connections of friends and relatives with dial-up connections. Posting all of them in one go would just kill that 28.8 kbps line...
Remember that Vistor Center and rest stop at the border of Arizona where I got my first good pictures of the red cliffs of Navajo country?
The rest stop and the highway is nestled in a valley between cliffs and buttes

Closer view of those red sandstone cliffs

More of the same...

It's not all barren rock. There's tough, scrubby-looking trees that grow out here.
Scrubby pine of some kind

There was a weird scraggly bush with flowers or seeds with long fuzzy streamers. Anyone have a clue what it was?

Next: On to the Petrified Forest National Park!
