The Petroglyphs of Puerco Pueblo

Puerco Pueblo, as described in the previous article, sits on a point of land over looking the lower plains. On the slope of tumbled boulders behind the ruins are many boulders that have had symbols chipped into the black desert varnish that covers some surfaces. These are the petroglyphs.

Interesting Geology

After exploring Puerco Pueblo, I drove to the southern entrance of the park, taking pictures of interesting geological features and petrified logs along the way. Referring to the map, the following pictures were taken at various points between Puerco Pueblo (in the middle of the map) and the south gate (bottom of map). Some of the points are even labeled on the map.

Why of course we have pictures )

Petrified Wood, part 1

The petrified logs are found in the south half of the park, south of the Tepees. A lot of times, they are just scattered chunks, like someone sliced a tree into sections and then just randomly flung the sections about. Other times, they are complete logs, though apparently cut into sections.
Logs. Lots of logs )
