Our friends the foxes were in fine form this lovely spring day.
Red fox

Red fox. Really!

Gray phase red fox, aka "silver fox".
Gray fox. Really!

Silver fox, again

Yes, he really is a red fox

Really, truly, gray foxes

No argument over this being a red fox, right?

Over in the South American jungle exhibit, the storks are nesting. It's spring.
Storks nesting

Stork bringing new stuff for nest

Giant anteater out and about

I have no idea what these birds are, but they were in the South American plains exhibit, and were colorful.
Mystery bird

Mystery bird pair

I'm guessing they are male and female, because of the different coloration of their "underpants'.

As you can see from the shadows on this rhea, the afternoon was getting on...
Rhea and shadows

Just before we left, this came shambling over for a look...
Hopping vampire or what?

It's actually our old friend from last visit, the King Vulture. Apparently he's had his flight feathers clipped and he gets to wander the main compound. He seems to hold his wings out for balance as he walks, and looks extremely weird doing so.
King Vulture walking

Back over by the petting zoo, several of the zoo's volunteers were doing a presentation with birds of prey. If I remember correctly, most of their presentation birds are rescue birds who generally can't go back into the wild due to injuries.
This is a great horned owl

Red-tailed hawk

Screech Owl

That's a full-grown adult, by the way. They really are that tiny.
Harris' Hawk

Definitely a rescue bird. According to his handler, this hawk has a damaged foot that he can't use to perch with, so holds his wings out to assist in balancing on one foot.
Same

Stabilizing with wing assist

Nice view of tail pattern

Barn Owl

I've always thought Barn Owls were cool.
