Audubon Zoo trip, part 3

Still more zoo pics!

Audubon Zoo trip, part 1
Audubon Zoo trip, part 2

The Audubon Zoo has a couple of Indian elephants that are the stars of a regular show for the zoo patrons on weekends. Elephants are intelligent creatures, and are much happier if they have things to do that keep their minds active, like training and shows.

If you look closely, there's a another one behind this one; she's standing lower in the back area below the plateau.

When we went Saturday, they had one of the elephants over by the audience so that people could touch her. Some of the smaller patrons took a bit of persuasion first.

Really impressed child & elephant

We also have some dromedary camels in the back of the Asian section. Many, many years ago, they used to have camel rides, but that's been gone for some time now. The camels get to be much lazier now.

There are some other ungulates in the Asia section:

Bet you're not that flexible....

The zoo has otters; Asian otters in the Asia section, and American otters in the Louisiana Swamp section. I think this next picture is of the Asian otters, but I took the photo seven months ago, so my memory is just a tad fuzzy.

Otters (March)

These following pictures are definitely the Asian otters, taken Saturday.

Follow the leader!

Find the otters in the reflections...

Our other Asian big cat: the Amur leopards.

Next time: Turtles and primates and small spiny things.
Correction: Misplaced pics of otters and birds
