Winchester Mystery House, part 2: Interior, public rooms

"Welcome to my parlor," said the spider to the fly... This installment includes pictures of the interior "public" areas, where Mrs. Winchester might have entertained visitors and friends, if she had any. The furniture is not necessarily the original; on Sarah Winchester's death, her daughter took the pieces she wanted, and sold the rest at auction. I'm not sure if what you see in the house are the pieces that have been recovered, or period furniture that gives you an idea what the originals would have looked like.

Parlor

Mrs. Winchester had several sitting rooms or parlors or music rooms downstairs. She also had lots of comfortable space in her bedroom, which we'll see in a later installment.

Piano in the parlor

She also had several pianos, which she could play quite well, supposedly.

Ceiling

This is typical of the ceilings in the house: molded plaster with fine wood inlays.

Parlor near the front door

That's the front door that no one was worthy to enter.

Teaset and furniture in the front parlor

The finished ballroom

As opposed to the unfinished ballroom, which is over on the other side of the house.

Ballroom organ

Ballroom fireplace and windows

Most the windows in the house, particularly on the front, are beautiful, custom-made stained glass. The ones in the ballroom each have quotes worked into the design.
