Yuletide is a go!

I have my Yuletide assignment as of yesterday.

As of today, I think I have a vague notion of a plot. Now, I have to write it!

comments

Dear Yuletide Author

So, I signed up for this Yuletide thing for the first time this year, and I'm supposed to give you a clue what I like. Uh...

I write as DragonessEclectic on AO3.

Well, to start with, I picked the fandoms I did because they are stories with characters that interest me, and/or because I am a closet goth. I don't feel like I could do justice to them myself, or I simply want to see *your* take on the characters.

Do not Wants

In general, I'm not here to be grossed out or depressed.

violent rape (dubcon via mind control/enthrallment is okay, if genre-appropriate)

humiliation

whump

explicit torture or gore (I do not enjoy being grossed out)

seriously unhygenic kinks (scat, golden showers, stuff like that)

Mundane AUs of fantastic/sci-fi fandoms (Seriously, why?)

Modern AUs of historical/period fandoms (Again, why?)

Wants - General

I like character studies, gen action/adventure, smut, dark gothic smut, "happy" endings for varying definitions of happy: in Lovecraft or vampire stories, a "happy" ending may mean "the character survived, but he likes to hang out in cemeteries and eats a very special diet now".

Wants - Specific

Anne of Green Gables - a childhood favorite. I devoured the entire series as a little girl, and since I was a little girl, a great many possibly interesting facets of characters whooshed right over my head. In retrospect, Anne and Diana were very close friends. A modern interpretation of their friendship might be an interesting character study. Also, L.M. Montgomery gave us plenty of clues to Anne's point of view (Anne tended to be vocal about it), but I don't recall seeing inside Diana's head very much. Maybe you could show me what that friendship looked like from Diana's point of view?

Laundry Series - I've only read as far as *The Jennifer Morgue* in the series, so references to whatever happened when Case Nightmare Green went live will pass me by. In this case, I'm hoping for something where Mo and Bob were supposed to have downtime/vacation to de-stress, and of course, things don't go according to plan.

Benjamin January series - Abishag Shaw is one of the more mysterious characters in the series. Why is a skilled frontier woodsman working as a cop in old New Orleans? Why does this same white frontiersman like and respect the free black protagonist, when most of his peers in New Orleans (white American frontiersmen, aka 'Kaintucks') are vulgar bigots of the worst kind? I'd like to see inside his head.

And now we get to my passionate goth side:

Dracula (novel) - I want to know about the dark, sexual seduction of Lucy Westenra by Dracula. I want it passionate, hot, and dark. Canon death is okay and expected here, especially since she comes back as a vampire.

Cthulhu Mythos (H.P. Lovecraft) - I'm looking for the characters written by H.P. Lovecraft, with all their quirks and flaws, and the Mythos beings as written by Lovecraft, NOT the myriad variations on them in RPGs and by other authors. (Derleth's version of the Mythos can go fall into the Great Attractor, thanks.)

Randolph Carter had some curious friendships; one with Harley Warren, who seems to have been domineering, and another with Richard Upton Pickman, so-very-goth artist, cynical and sarcastic and afflicted with a certain genetic condition... I'd like to know more about one or both of those friendships--were they platonic or romantic?

comments
